This book was produced by students and faculty in the Master of Fine Arts program at Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). We hope to broaden design awareness by spreading knowledge of what we do.

Kimberly Bost is an artist since conception, and received her BFA from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Michelle Brooks studied photography and installation arts at Bard College before studying design at MICA. When not plugged into a computer, she likes to knit, read books about dragons, and dig around in the garden.
Katherine Cornelius works her muscles by running marathons, playing soccer, and hiking, and her mind by doing graphic design. She was a senior Web designer in Washington, DC, before coming to MICA.
Alissa Faden is a designer, art historian, trendspotter, and writer in one creatively-wrapped package. Her goal is to earn her fifteen minutes by coming up with the next big thing.
Nancy Froehlich studied history and photography at University of Washington in Seattle. By day she can be found behind a camera lens, in front of a computer, or teaching design. By night she lets loose on the dance floor.
Davina Grunstein received her BA from UCLA in English Literature and her MFA from UC Davis in Fine Art. She is interested in the overlap between art and design, graphic, environmental, product, and fashion.
Allen Harrison is creative director of Static Spark Interactive and art director of Friction Magazine, an online/print publication started in 2001. Friction has been recognized by Print, The Addy Awards, Mother Jones, Yahoo, and The Nation. He teaches design courses at MICA.
J. Spence Holman is from Baltimore and likes to make stuff. He graduated from Vassar College, where he made different stuff.
Christopher Jackson was born in Dalton, GA, the carpet capital of the world, and earned a BFA in Painting and Drawing from The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He was recently appointed to the design faculty at Emmanuel College in Boston.
Ellen Lupton has written numerous books on design. She has taught at MICA since 1997, where she is the founding director of the graphic design MFA program. She also serves as curator of contemporary design at Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum.
Josh Malinow has a background in fiction and nonfiction writing. His written work has appeared in various publications, including MAD Magazine. He holds a BA in journalism from the University of Maryland-College Park.
George Moore is a roaming buffalo, going wherever motion graphics will take him. He is currently teaching motion graphics and interactive design at St. Mary's College in southern Maryland.
Adam Palmer grew up in Seaford, Delaware and studied graphic design at Salisbury University in Maryland. Since arriving at MICA, Adam has had numerous illustrations featured in the New York Times “Week in Review.” Music consumes the rest of his life.
Jennifer Cole Phillips has an MFA from Rhode Island School of Design and has taught at MICA and the University of Baltimore. Her work has been included in the annuals of Graphis Design, Graphis Poster, Print, the Art Director's Clubs of Metropolitan Washington and New York, AIGA 50, and the ACD 100 Show, among others.
Jessica P. Rodríguez was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She worked as a senior designer at a Washington, D.C., studio for five years and is currently developing a line of original pattern designs, intended for use by fabric or paper product companies.
Zvezdana Rogic runs her own fashion label, Zvezdana, and teaches graphic design at MICA. She loves to collaborate, write fiction, and work out. Hailing from Serbia, she speaks with a deep Mittel-European accent.
Veronica Semeco was born and raised in Valencia, Venezuela. She interned at the National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution. She is currently initiating a business designing and importing Venezuelan handcrafts.
