GRAPHIC DESIGNER SPRING 2012 DESIGN INTERNSHIP

This internship is an excellent opportunity to work in a creative team and learn more about book design and the publishing industry. Interns will work in the design department and report to the design director. It is essential that the intern have a very strong typographic sense and conceptual design skills.

Day-to-day responsibilities (which vary from project to project) include:
  • Developing and extending book design concepts, including interior layouts and cover designs
  • Designing and creating marketing materials (both print and digital)
  • Preparing promotional materials for sales conference and conventions
  • Preparing books for translation into electronic formats (HTML and CSS)
  • Assisting with design/editorial corrections and typesetting

Requirements and Qualifications:
  • Attention to detail
  • Must possess intelligence and stamina
  • Good multi-tasking skills
  • Must be creative, organized, and willing to learn
  • Familiar and competent with the latest InDesign, Photoshop & Illustrator, HTML, CSS
  • Must be able to work approximately 25-40 hours per week

This Spring internship is available for approximately 10 weeks beginning Monday, March 5th, 2012 and continuing to late May. There is a possibility that this internship could lead to a permanent position.

PRODUCTION PREPRESS MANAGER

Princeton Architectural Press is looking for a multi-talented individual with excellent Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign skills to work as a Production Prepress Manager. The applicant should understand all aspects of book print production and will work closely with design and editorial to troubleshoot files and image problems to help produce printer-ready files for books. The position requires excellent technical skills as well as artistic sensitivity to the aesthetics of the project. Candidates must have a proficient knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite 5 on the Macintosh platform. Knowledge of K4 and Abobe Digital Publishing Suite a plus.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • four-color retouching and image manipulation of photos and illustrations in Photoshop and Illustrator
  • reviewing files from the project editor and designer, preparing tests of art and design elements, and reviewing tests and proofs. Recommending revisions to files or requesting replacement files that will eliminate or reduce anticipated print problems
  • preflighting and preparing final book files to send to printer
  • creating and archiving PDF versions of final book files

Princeton Architectural Press is always on the lookout for freelance copyeditors and proofreaders with experience in architecture, architecture history, landscape architecture, and urbanism. We are also looking for freelance copyeditors and proofreaders with experience in graphic design.

Preference will be given to those who have taken continuing education classes in copyediting or proofreading or who have a degree in English, and those who have a working knowledge of our titles. It is also helpful if you are located close to New York City (within one day's range for Ground UPS).
