Landscape Futures Bundle
by David Gissen
ISBN LandscapeFutu
A fascinating new exhibition called Landscape Futures: Instruments, Devices, and Architectural Invention just opened at the Nevada Museum of Art and runs until February 12, 2012. Guest curated by Geoff Manaugh of BLDGBLOG, the exhibition explores how planetary landscapes, and our perceptions of them, can be transformed utterly by technology and design. An extraordinary mix of large-scale installations, technical prototypes, wall-sized graphics, and portable devices provide visitors with unexpected access to the invisible—and often fantastical—streams of data constantly generated by the landscapes around us.
To celebrate the opening of the Landscape Futures exhibition, we are pleased to offer a specially priced bundle of books featuring work by three of the show's most interesting contributors:
- Subnature: Architecture's Other Environments, by David Gissen
Subnature looks beyond LEED ratings, green roofs, and solar panels toward a progressive architecture based on a radical new conception of nature.
- Pamphlet Architecture 28: Augmented Landscapes by Smout Allen
London's Smout Allen presents five projects that respond to the way in which man has enlarged the landscape through architecture and infrastructure, manipulating and blurring perceptions of what is natural and what is artificial.
- Pamphlet Architecture 30: Coupling by Lateral Office
Coupling argues that infrastructures behave as artificially maintained natural systems. Rather than a New Deal approach of massive engineering or iconic infrastructure, Coupling employs adaptable, responsive, small-scale interventions whose impacts are global in scale.
